about

"The remarkable new album 'Collages' by Mammoth Eyes is a brilliant, penetrating album full of thought and beauty existing within an all-encompassing, bleak atmosphere. The opening few minutes alone are an experience, and are reminiscent of subtle, elegiac works of yesteryear such as Sugar Ray's 'I Just Wanna Fly' or Lou Bega's 'Mambo NO. 5' while still radiating a fiery intensity evoking harder-hitting masterpieces like Kid Rock's 'Bawitdaba', Santana's 'Smooth (ft. Rob Thomas)' or Rednex 'Cotton Eyed Joe'. As time all but disappears, the album tromps on, offering track after track of hauntingly transcendent music experienced only in other works of genius such as Offspring's 'Pretty Fly For A White Guy', Smashmouth's 'Hey Now You're A Rockstar', Will Smith's 'the Wild Wild West' or possibly the resplendent 'Achy Breaky Heart' from Billy Ray Cyrus. There is an attention to detail and dedication towards inward-reflection here that occurs extremely infrequently in western-art. Guitar playing evoking the mastery of Little Wayne at his best propped up by a rhythm section harnessing the imagination of Lars Ulrich, the execution Meg White, and the pummeling bass guitar mastery of Sid Vicious weave themselves adroitly across the tracks, forming a tapestry of supreme beauty. Every song making up this towering piece of art is stunning. Upon first listen you quickly realize that this is precisely what the world was lacking, what it truly needs, and are left hoping only that it is not too late. Are you down with the sickness? (Ohwahahahah)" - Paul Reubens
